Wildorado, Texas

Wildorado is proud to be a part of the Texas Panhandle and the old "Route 66". We are an unincorporated community of approximately 200 people.

Local History
In the 1890's, folks traveling between Canyon & Tascosa (now Boy's Ranch) would stop at an old rock dugout along the Wildorado Creek. Here they found good spring water and a cool place to rest. They could shoe their horses & repair their wagons before getting back on the road. It was first settled by Eugene Binford and John R. Goodman, who ranched in the area before 1900. A post office was established in 1904. In 1908, the railroad was completed and a town site was laid out. Eventually many travelers stayed, and around 1900 established the present town site of Wildorado. Throughout the years, those that have chosen to stay, have experienced the relaxed & friendly way of life that Wildorado people enjoy.

Located in south east Oldham County, residents here enjoy the best of both worlds with rural living plus easy access to a major city. The main thoroughfare was the Old Ozark Trail, which became the famous Route 66, and eventually gave way to today's I-40. Amarillo is just 15 min. away to the east.
